Understanding Leg Cramps: Causes, Symptoms, and Relief

Question
I'm a 53 year old male, 5'8" approx 225lbs.

Daily diet. 5 days a week apple, orange, banana and yogurt. Then a normal meal a night.

I get leg cramps ever now a then. They are usually in the hamstrings, calves and toes.

Last night while watching TV with my legs up. I got a cramp in my inside right thigh. Never experiences that before. The cramps were very intense to the point where I started to feel faint and I went flush. I tried to walk it off but nothing helped I almost passed out. I took 2 advil and it started to subside. I immediately had to move my bowels and I noticed my penis shrunk as if I was in a cold pool but even worse. Its still a little painful this morning.

My question is what could I have done to minimize the presure of the cramps and how can I prevent them from happening again. Thank you for your time.

Answer
If you are sure it was in the thigh, meaning a muscle cramp, then you might try some over the counter magnesium oxide, 400 mg once a day.  The penis shrink thing was due to the pain.  Other thoughts was that you had a testicle problem that went away (twisting).

Hope this helps...
