QuestionHello Dr. Ramirez,
I went to a local public clinic to get tested for thrush-yeast infection. When the nurse inserted the speculum the pain on the upper part of my vaginal opening hurt beyond belief. I went on to explain that my gyno back home used a smaller one than normal and she insterted the "virginal" speculum. This time it hurt just as much but on the bottom of the opening (I'm not sure if she opened it in the other direction or what).
The problem is that the day after I got a brown discharge, the following day from that it was a bit heavier, and the day after that I got bad menstrual cramps and the bleeding (though still brown) was much heavier and I had to use maxi pads rather than the liners. Today was day four and the bleeding may have decreased some from yesterday and there is a little red to the blood when I clean myself, but the period sensation is still on. I went to see the local gp and she said she was scared to put anything in to check me up. I want to know if it is worth to see a private doctor and what possible explanations are there for this.
Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.
AnswerHello Anna,
If you are not bleeding heavily then I think you can wait it out and not see a doctor. It is possible that she abraided your vagina, which is the source of the bleeding. It just needs to heal. The fact that the blood is brown signifies that the blood is old. You don't need to worry unless the blood becomes bright red. Then you should be examined.
