QuestionHi Brenda,
I had my second c-section 5 weeks ago. Initially my bleeding was 'normal
'although I considered it to be fairly light, and it seemed to have completely
stopped by about 2 weeks. I continue to have some watery discharge, often
after breastfeeding. It varies from scant to a tablespoon or so in a single
gush, no dripping through the day, and that seemed to have been finishing
up.
My abdominal wound has been quite sore the last few days, maybe I have
overdone the shopping and lifting the stroller into the car and so on. It looks
fine on the skin, not red or infected at all but it is sore to press on. ?today I
have had more watery discharge and also some bright red discharge, about a
tablespoon or so. I am due for my 6 week check next week. Do I need to call
the ob before then? He can be hard to get into.
Thanks in advance
Darcy
AnswerDear Darcy,
No - nothing you have described is anything I would panic about. I would suspect that the deeper discomfort is most likely the healing of the muscle tissue and if you are starting to get more active, as it surely sounds like you are with lifting, etc,..., then those tissues may be a bit inflamed or irritated. You might try making a concentrated effort to take it pretty easy for a few days and see if the soreness is relieved a bit.
The bright red discharge may be related to that irritation/inflammation inside or it may actually be a signal your menstrual cycles are returning. Are you breastfeeding? If so, are you beginning to wean in amount from breast at all? Be aware - if this would happen to be the case, you would need to definitely consider yourself fertile again.
I would keep your six week appointment for next week unless something else changes. Wear a pad or pantiliner to be able to accurately judge the amount of discharge and log the dates and amounts and any other symptoms for reporting to your doctor.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
Brenda
