Understanding Specula: A Guide for New Relationships

Hi Maggie,

Here is what may be an odd question: I just started dating a woman, and in
the course of conversation I asked if she knew what a speculum is. She didn't
have a clue. Do you think there is any significance to that? I thought most
women would know what a speculum is.

(In an unrelated conversation, she said she last saw her gynecologist last
summer.)

You were the first to state that the question is odd.  Her doc may not have ever called it a speculum, so my answer is no, I don't think there is any significance to that.

Well, frankly, it seems a weird question to ask someone.  If you want to know if she gets routine pap smears, just ask that question instead.
