Post-Abortion Bleeding: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
I had an abortion on 9/16/09 at seven weeks conception. I had minimal bleeding and minimal pain. I never went for my two week follow up visit.
On 10/17/09, I got my period. Bleeding was regular and my cycle seemed like it was going to end (as usual) on day seven. However, I am now at day 17 of my period and still bleeding. The bleeding went from dark brown and a light flow (day 7-11) to heavy, dark red bleeding and some clotting (current). I don't feel any pain and I don't soak through pads in a day. Most of the blood seems to be expelled during urination.
Please help. I am nervous. I hope this is normal.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Gail,

This may or may not be normal, it's hard to tell without examination. I definitely think you should visit your doctor to make sure you don't have any left over tissue in your uterus which can cause infection. If you don't have any left over tissue, it's your hormones returning to normal which can cause longer periods.
