QuestionI have a question in regards to implantation bleeding. I normaly have a 35 day cycle and at this time I am on the 18th day of that cycle. I had sex on the 14th day and all was great! But on Sunday the 16th day I had some spotting and then again on the 17th and 18th. As of this afternoon the spotting has stopped. I was wondering if the bleeding could be implantation bleeding from the sex on the 14th. Could I have gotten pregnant that night and the egg implanted two days later?
AnswerDear Arlene,
When your cycles are longer than 28 days, you need to adjust the expected ovulation day for that. For example, if you have a period on the 1st, we'd expect your fertile window (based on a 35 day cycle) to be the 18th through the 28th. We'd also anticipate ovulation to be approximately the 22nd-23rd. Another good way to predict when you should be ovulating is to figure out the date your next period is due and count back approximately 12-14 days.
Therefore, under these "normal" circumstances, I wouldn't expect that you would have conceived on the 14th day of your cycle. However - if you have been using an ovulation kit or are doing basal body temps and know that you actually DO ovulate on or near the 14th day, then conception may have been possible.
As for implantation bleeding, it normally occurs 6-12 days after conception takes place. Yours would have occurred too early to be implantation bleeding. It sounds to me like what you experienced may have been a bit of ovulation bleeding/discharge.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you the best of luck in your trying!
