Persistent Vaginal Bacterial Infection: Seeking Effective Treatment

Question
I have had a vaginal bacterial infection for a long time.  I went to have my yearly checkup and they put me and my husband on Flagyl for seven days.  We both took the medicine and I still had the infection after a week.  I called the office and they told me to keep taking it.  I took it for another week and still have the infection.  I called the office and they want me to come back in.  Can't they just change the medicine?  I hate going to the doctor's office.  Is Diflucan something you can use to treat this or Doxycycline?  Could Monistat help with this?  I had tried MetroGel cream before and it didn't make a difference either.  Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
Can't they just change the medicine?
They need to do cultures since the medicine is not working.

Is Diflucan something you can use to treat this or Doxycycline?
Diflucan and monistat are for yeast infections and that should itch you. OK?
Doxycycline may be the drug they add. You need to go right in and be rechecked.

If they do not seem to know what to do ask for a specialist. OK?
