Understanding Discrepancies in Medical Tests & X-Ray Scans

Question
Can you have something really wrong with you, cancer, or diseases, lyme, aids, whatever you can think of but all your blood work is ok, your CBC etc?
Also, if you have x-rays will they look totally at them or just at what you were having the x-ray for?
For instance if you have a scoliosis x-ray done to see if you have scoliosis will they also look to see if they can see any tumor or anything else or do they ONLY look at the scoliosis part of it?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Diane and thanks for writing,

No, I can not think of any serious health conditions that would not show up on the blood work. As long as the doctor ordering the right tests, then a disease will show up as an abnormal reading.

I guess it depends on who is looking at the X-ray and under what conditions. If it's in an emergency room with a car accident victim, then they'd be looking quickly for signs of trauma like fractures and internal bleeding. But if it was a routine diagnostic X-ray viewed by a radiologist, then I would imagine s/he would look thoroughly and see anything abnormal that shows up, even if it's not the primary reason the X-ray was ordered.

I hope this helps,

Margot
