QuestionHello,
hopefully you can give me some advice on what's wrong with me and which direction to look to figure it out. I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just other options as to what my problem could be..................
I have severe pain in my left, upper abdominal area. It is mostly on the far outer area. This area swells up visibly enough that I do not have a curve in my waistline anymore. When comparing both sides, my right side HAS a curve, my left side goes straight up and down. I do not have any nausia, vomiting or diarea with this. No loss of appetite or sleep...........except for the pain keeping me awake. A heating pad seems to help.
I have had this problem off and on for a coupla' years. I've had ultasounds done, x-rays, and cat-scans with the dye injected.............to no avail. Noone ever seems to be able to tel me the problem. The only pain med. that I have foun to work, is dilaudid, with tramadol as well.
I have gone to the hospital emergency twice, in which they tell me I have a strained stomach muscle. I find this hard to believe, since I have been going to the gym for over 22 years, as well as doing abdominal exercises for the same amount of time. Besides the fact that I haven't done anything ot of the ordinary when these "attacks" happen. In fact, it is quite the opposite when they occur, I'm usually bein a little lazy! This particular "episode" has been going on for two weeks now.
Hopefully you can help me or referr me to another expert on here who can.
Thank you so much for your time and help.
Tanya
AnswerAbdominal pain in a woman has many causes and can be difficult to figure out sometimes. Something like this, where multiple tests don't give an answer makes me think of endometriosis, especially if the pain follows your menstrual cycle. Also, ovarian cysts, or could be an inflammatory condition of the colon. I would start out getting checked by a gynecologist, and if they can't find anything, then a gastroenterologist.
Hope this helps...
