Bruising & Blood Spots After DVT & Filter: Possible Causes & Natural Approaches

Question
Hi Robert,

I had a DVT (clot) in my right leg 2 years ago. I had a Greenfield Filter implanted. The MD mentioned taking coumadin for life. I, instead, decided to pursue a more natural approach by taking supplements like fish oil, curcumin, Vitmain E and CoQ10. All is well and I even jog 5-7 miles daily. But I sometimes bruise when I bump into something, especially on my hand and forearm. A small blood spot appears sometimes even when I lean forcefully against my forearm. They always go away after a few days. Is it possible I'm "overthinning" my blood by taking too many natural supplements? I'm 55 years old and realize one's skin changes as they age. In your objective opinion, should I be worried when these "blood spots" occur? Thanks.

Answer
The usual rule for an uncomplicated DVT is to anticoagulate for 6 months.  If there is an underlying recurring problem, then possibly for life.  The problem with herbal remedies, is we don't know how much is enough, so it is possible to take too much.  No, you aren't too old to have these things occuring.

Hope this helps...
