QuestionHello and thankyou for taking my question....it is kind of a strange one. I am a pastor who is writing a sermon on death. I know that that death occurs when there is lack of o2 to the brain, but my question is what happens to all the excess O2 that is leftoever in the body? Does it break down into other gases, or Does it just dissipate from the body and remain O2? What exactly happens to it? Thank you
AnswerInteresting question.... when does death occur?
The excess oxygen is used up by the cells it is near... the cells continue to live for minutes to hours and die off when the oxygen is depleted... that is minutes for the brain, minutes to hours for other organs and hours or more for the muscles, bones, etc.
