Hi,

My Sister-in-Law is currently in St. Kitts in the West Indies in the hospital there with gastroenteritis. She has both Crones and colitis. She is unable to keep anything down and is severly dehydrated. She is going to be moved to Puerto Rico to a hospital called Hima Hospital in Cauguas, PR. Do you know or do any of your collegues know if this is a "good" hospital for internal medicine?

Any info you could offer would help my in-laws tremendously!
Answer -
Sorry, I don't know anything about the hospitals in that area. I can email one of my patients who is a biologist on St. Croix; she may have some knowledge about it.  Will need your email address.  Mine is drlipo@hotmail.com

Answer
I have not been able to get any information from my friend as far as health care reputation in PR.  Gastroenteritis is a pretty basic disease process to treat, so hopefully she will get what she needs there... the only thing to do is to suppress vomiting with medications, give IV fluids, then advance oral liquids as she gets better.  They should be competent to do that in PR.

Hope this helps....
