HPV and Sexually Transmitted Infections: Understanding Transmission
QuestionSo I'm trying to figure out all this information about HPV that's been coming out. Here is my question: do you contract HPV just from having regular (unprotected sex) or do you have to have warts appear to contract that particular strain? Reason I ask is, my long-term bf of 3 or so years had dotten a few spots on his penis roughly 1.5 years ago. Went to a general doctor who told him its warts, then a dermatologist who told him its molloscum contagiosum. We already were having sex about 3-6 months before finding out the spots were those conditions (molloscum being the most recent diagnosis about 8 months ago). Anyways, I have had nothing appear on me whether it be molloscum or warts. And roughly 2 months or so after they appeared and I had my regular PAP, I tested HPV negativ and then a few months later had a repeat test (as my results were abnormal but I had a Negative HPV test) and all came out clear. So I'm confused as to how it could be he has either of those conditions and me, after nearly 1.5 years of having contact with them, have nothing in/on me?
AnswerExposure to HPV is by sexual contact unprotected and need not be associated with warts. Some women do become negative after being hpv POSITIVE on the pap smear test so you may want to get the vaccine while you are negative since not everyone exposed to the warts gets the virus and not all who get it show it on the pap smear.
