Persistent Fatigue and Pain with Hashimoto's & Iron Deficiency: Seeking Medical Advice

Question
QUESTION: Hi Doc,

I am a 36 old female.  I have hasimotos disease (diagnosed last year) and a history of iron deficiency anemia.  My blood level last year was at 3 (I believe that was hemoglobin).  Anyhow, I am just exhausted.  I can sleep 7 or 8 hours and take a 2-3 hour nap during the day, and still be in bed at 9:00 p.m.  Obviously, I work and don't get that opportunity everyday, but when I do that is how it goes.  I have a nagging pain that starts where my leg connects to my body and goes down the leg to my ankle.  It throbs.  I am a server and am on my feet for about 30 hours a week, with no breaks.  My question is should I be concerned about either one of these issues or is it just life with work, family, and a husband?  It is on the inside of my leg and like I said goes to my ankle.  I had blood levels checked about 7 months or so ago and doc said all was normal.  I am not seeing a specialist for the thyroiditis, just my primary doc.

The medications I am taking are:  Levothyroxin .075 1x a day, metoclopromide 5 mg 3x a day, and celexa 80 mg 1x a day.  The celexa is for OCD, which I have had for 6 years.

Any insight would be appreciated.  I don't have really good insurance and I hate to run to the doc for every little thing.

Sincerely,

Kim
ANSWER: if your Hb was 3, this is an emergency and needs to be treated in the hospital..... this is too low to be compatible with life. .

QUESTION: that was last year and was treated with iron therapy.  I am refering to my recent condition, do you have any insight into my first questions.

Answer
you have to make sure that your thyroid condition is treated properly..... hashimoto's can go high and low and it is hard to tell without blood tests.... also, the hb that low is scary, so you have to make sure that is normal.  I know we use high doses of meds like celexa for ocd, but that raises the chance of side effects
