DVT After Ankle Fracture: Monitoring Symptoms & Treatment
QuestionMy husband was diagnosed with DVT last weekend as the result of a broken ankle 9 weeks ago. The cast was cut off at the 3 week mark because of excessive swelling. He left the hospital Sunday, April 15. He began Levinox and Cumadin in the hospital Friday, April 13th. He continues to take both. The leg color and swelling had returned to just about normal before his discharge. Today, April 20 swelling and discoloration have come back. Is this normal or should we go back to the ER (of course it is the weekend again). Thank you.
AnswerMy answer to that is to never take a chance if there is a previous history of DVT especially since it is very recent. At least see an urgent care physician not necessarily at the er but at least see someone. Since he is on lovenox and coumadin it may have to be ajusted depending on his PT, PTT and INR
