QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
Both my 8 month old daughter and myself have this persistant cough and she has a wheeze along with it. We started out with colds 8 weeks ago that lasted for about 10 days then had this annoying cough but no other symptoms and now the last two and a half weeks have had a terrible deep cough (I have some phlegm and she does too I think but can't get it out but does have some thick nasal discharge) that seems to have no relief. The doctor prescribed inhalers (flovent and ventilin for her and symbicort and ventilin for me) but we've been taking them for about 10 days now but they don't seem to do anything. Could we be having an allergy instead? I don't want to take inhalers when it doesn't seem to do much. If it is an allergy, could I be passing it on to her through breastfeeding? This also makes it difficult for medications I can take for relief as well. I am just sick of the contstant coughing for both of us and would like to head on the path of controlling it.
Thank you,
Michelle

QUESTION: I live near Toronto, Canada - I've wondered if it's been the smog/changes in weather. We live in town, not in the country.
I drink lots of water, one Diet Coke a day, no coffee, have been trying Nettle tea twice a day, and sometimes diluted cranberry or apple juice. I have been eating more than usual as I am breastfeeding still - a typical day would be bagel with apple butter or sometimes peanut butter/jam and margarine. A banana every morning as well. Sometimes a low fat muffin. For lunch, sometimes a sandwich - deli meat, veggies, and rice cheese (I had been cutting out dairy when my daughter was younger as she always spit up and was gassy - I have introduced some back in and have noticed more gassiness over the weekend so I was going back to not eating dairy again). Sometimes at lunch I have a chicken/veggie frozen meal. An afternoon snack of fruit and then I crave salty by late afternoon and have nachos and salsa or pretzels. For dinner, it's usually chicken, veggies and a carb - rice, couscous or potatoes or bun.
Supplements are Vit. C, Omega 3's, Cal/Mag, Floridix Iron, Prenatal Vitamin, Digestive Enzymes, Acidophilis
For my daughter, she is on solids - rice, oatmeal or barley for breakfast, lunch is veggies and a Mum's rice cracker, dinner is veggies and meat - She doesn't want fruit but I'm always trying. She's okay with bananas and apples but the naturopath we saw said to try cutting that out for her eczema and it did seem to go away. She was taking Vitamin D but her doctor said now that summer is here, she'll be okay.
Let me know if you need more info. I really appreciate you looking into this as I'd hate to be giving her inhalers unnecessarily.
Thank you for your time,
Michelle
AnswerNeed to lose the chicken, turkey, farm fed fish, Atlantic Salmon due to the corn oil they accumulate. Lose the peanuts and peanut butter due to their high levels of omega-6 plant oil, plus lose foods manufactured with same, such as chips, granola, trail mix and especially avoid flax since humans can not convert its form of omega-3 so it acts like a very toxic omega-6.
