Persistent Infection: What to Do When Antibiotics Fail

Question
QUESTION: I went to the dr. about a month ago for genital itching and burning during sex.  I was diagnosed with an infection that resembled trich and prescribed oral metronidazole for 7 days.  I took the whole course but about 2 days later was itchy again.  I called the dr. and was told to use external yeast infection cream; several days later, no change so they gave me diflucan.  No change; if anything the itching was worse (feels like fire ants).  I went back to the dr. for another exam and was diagnosed with a mild bacterial infection.  Clindamycin was prescribed and I was instructed to continue using the external cream.  I only have one dose of clindamycin left but have not noticed a significant change - is there something the dr. may have missed?  Or something else that may give me some relief?  Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: suzanne;

well do you have only one sexual partner>if theres only one and your have intercourse,then that one partner needs treatment to,your just passing it back and forth. even if its just a yeast infection,the same things,passing it back and forth,so you both need treatment;

vaginitis is an inflammation of your vagina,usually caused by an infection. a vaginal infection can be sexually transmitted,
asl your doctior if your sexual parytner needs treatment as well.

most vagainl infections are common and treatable,but those resulting from an STD may be more serious. its possible to have an infection but no symptoms;

i feel you need to be treated for STD's as well. you have to remember all women are different,so something may work for me [medications] and not for you;

see your doctor again;

good luck;

QUESTION: Just one partner - my husband.  He was tested after the first diagnosis and took the full antibiotic course although his test was clear, just in case.  And we did not have sex during any of the treatments, yet the itching never cleared up.  The dr. told me what I have at this point is a very mild overgrowth of normal bacteria and not sexually transmitted.  If my husband's test was clear, is it still possible he could be passing something back to me, especially considering our extremely limited contact in the past month?  Are there any other causes for itching in the vulva?

Answer
suzanne;

vaginal itching can come from something as simple as trapping bacteria for too long under too many layers of clothes. all that warmth and moisture provides perfect condition for incubating infections.

the itching can also signal an allergy to a chemical in soap,deodorant or dye,or may simply be a sign of thinning vaginal tissues in women,or just from yeast;
