Upper Thigh Rash: Potential Fungal Infection - Symptoms & Treatment
QuestionHello,
I have what I believe to be a fungal infection/rash on my upper thigh right below my pelvic bone. It first came up about less than two months ago. I think it was due to me wearing the same pair of pants twice to the gym. It sprang up on both thighs and at first I tried clotrimazole cream for a few days and it only seemed to get worse. It was red and a little raised and extremely itchy. My friend, a nurse's aide gave me some nystatin ointment and after using it for 4-5 days it STARTED to get better and the itching lessened. In less than two weeks the itching and raised skin was completely gone, but my skin still had red splotches which I assumed was scarring from scratching. Within the last couple of days, the rash has reappeared (maybe because I am going to the gym even more now and wearing the same pants twice again? I know it sounds dumb but I thought I could get away with it.) What are some over-the-counter ointments that I could use? Is there anything that might work faster than two weeks and/or lessen the itching sooner? Did the rash not completely go away after the first time? Are my assumptions correct? What can I do to prevent this from happening again other than not wearing the same pants twice? Could the source of the problem be something else?
Sorry for the long question. I would really appreciated detailed information and suggestions.
Thank you!
AnswerYou need to call your doctor to get a stronger oral medication to clear the fungus from your hair follicles in that area and then either get sweats that wick away to sweat or change to clean ones each time. There are not really any topicals that will get that deep into the hair follicles once you have recurrences, you need to call the doctor.
