QuestionQUESTION: What has been your experience or knowledge of it? ( though results
won't change my mind) I wanna keep him. You said I will have peace of
mind if I refuse. Did you or your sis have it done? What are the dangers?
ANSWER: Hello, mar,
What is the point of genetic testing? We did NOT have genetic testing. My sister was offered amniocentesis and she refused. I was never offered, and I wouldn't have accepted it either. During pregnancy, the only thing they do with results of genetic tests is usually to try to get parents to have an abortion. There are very, very few conditions that can be treated in utero that cannot equally well be treated later. The only one I can think of where serious treatment has been given is spina bifida/hydrocephalus, and that can be prevented in the first place if the mother takes adequate B vitamins during pregnancy.
The best preventative for problems with the baby is to eat a healthy diet. It is vitally important to stay away from chemicals in your food, including artificial sweeteners, monosodium glutimate, and any added ingredients you can't pronounce. Also, it is wise to refrain from eating foods that might be genetically engineered. At present, the following oils are commonly used, and may come from genetically engineered sources: corn, cottonseed, soy, and canola. These are also bad oils in their own right. Good oils are olive oil (do not cook at high temperatures with it), coconut oil (may be used for high temperature cooking and does not require refrigeration), and macadamia nut oil (so I am told). Also, in general just eat real foods instead of artificial foods (such as margarine or cheese food product), and eat them in their natural state (don't throw away egg yolks; they are the most nutritious part of the egg). A low fat diet is also bad for the baby. So is a high carbohydrate diet. And both are bad for you. Don't take pharmaceuticals. Most of them are toxic. Don't go vegetarian. This is also a cause of dietary deficiencies; you need animal fat. You can get it in milk or eggs, and don't have to get it from meat. But failure to eat any animal foods is a problem. Go organic if you can.
My take on it is that you will experience more peace of mind if you refuse. Once your child is born, you can see him for yourself. At that point, if there is a concern, tests can be run. But I think that if tests are run prenatally, you can't see your baby, and all you can do is worry. I'm not saying that if you refuse you will have peace of mind; I hope I am not misunderstood. But if you don't refuse, it can cause unnecessary anxiety. Peace of mind comes from trust in God, and from being willing to accept whatever gift you have been given. Amniocentesis causes miscarriage about 1% of the time, and that's just about as often as they find a problem they are looking for. It can also cause the baby to get spinal meningitis, which is very serious. I actually knew someone who had amniocentesis against my warning, and this happened to her baby.

QUESTION: I noticed from previous reviews you discourage abortion. Is this from
experience or your religious background as well? I truly value and
respect your opinion. Please share a relevant psalm from the bible you
know that applies to me. I was raised a Catholic but haven't practiced in
a while, but it seems it had to be God who worked in mysterious ways
when I had lyme disease. He helped me find naturopathic routes that
saved my life
AnswerHello, marie,
I first learned about abortion when I was not even a teenager. I asked my mother what it was. When she told me, I was horrified! It didn't have anything to do with my religion. It was a natural reaction. The reason I oppose abortion here is because of the horrible damage it does to women. If you read my answers (and those of other experts here) you will see how much damage it does. I get so many questions from women who are suffering from nasty and totally unnecessary complications. If they had left their bodies alone, they would almost always be fine. Abortion is a huge lie. If they even so much as gave the appearance of obtaining informed consent, most women would never touch abortion. If we could teach women to respect their own bodies, abortion wouldn't even be considered, either because there was no reason for it, or because they'd know better than to try it. I just hope word spreads in some places so women stop bleeding to death after abortion. There are always better answers, and women deserve better.
I'm not sure what you are looking for with respect to a Psalm.
The Catholic structure of doctrine doesn't really explain the Gospel. It puts impossible burdens on people. It teaches people to expect the horrors of Purgatory, and teaches them not to trust Jesus when He said, "It is finished!" Many people reject Catholicism because of how punitive it is. I long to explain the Gospel to every Catholic, but most won't listen. They are ruled by fear. If I had been raised with those doctrines, I would be terrified.
I am very glad to hear you were able to heal from lyme disease. That is a real accomplishment.
