Concerned About Recurring Blister After Pediatrician Treatment - Seeking Advice
QuestionMy 6 year old daughter had a pimple on her thumb that grew into a very large blister. I took her to her Pediatrician yesterday and they drained it and took a culture of it then put a bandaid on it. They told me to soak it in warm, soapy water 3 times a day and gave her some Cephalexin antibiotic to take twice a day for 10 days.
Last night and this morning when I went to soak it in the water I noticed it was puffed up and filled back up with fluid again. Shoud it be that way or should I take her back to her doctor again?
AnswerHi Wendy,
This could be what is called a Herpetic Whitlow. Antibiotics won't help much if this is the case. However, I would continue what you are doing until the cullture comes back. If you fear that this looking worse, then a call to your doctor is appropriate.
