QuestionQUESTION: My wife will be scheduling a colonoscopy in the near future. I always attend her medical appointments and examinations (she consents and wants me to). We are wondering whether I will be able to be with her when she has her colonoscopy (ie: will I be able to be in the exam room when her colonoscopy is done?)
We both know it is a relatively straight-forward, common procedure. And we both know that she is likely to be at least partially sedated for the colonoscopy. Neither of these things affect her wish for me to be present during this procedure.
Will I be able to be present during her colonoscopy? If not, why not?
Thank you.
ANSWER: When I do them, sometimes I allow family to watch on the screen, some doctors don't because it gets busy with several technicians and people can get in the way. The only way to tell is to ask the performing physician what they think. Personally, I would not want to be in watching my wife's colonoscopy.....

QUESTION: Thank you - couple follow up questions - you mention allowing family members to watch on the screen - what you are saying is that you have allowed family members to be present in the exam room, during the colonoscopy, and the family members watch on the screen there (I assume it is the same screen you, as the doctor, are watching the colonoscopy on, correct?)
My wife is comfortable w/ me being there and watching and I'm comfortable with it also - can you explain why you wouldn't want to watch your wife's colonoscopy? are she and I missing something?? (if it makes a difference in the way you'd view it, I have always been present for her gyn exams)
Thanks again!
Answeryes, the same screen I am watching on in the room.
I wouldn't want to watch my wife's GYN exam either.... I have faith in the doctor and don't think that I can add anything to either exam plus I just don't want to observe someone looking in body cavities. That is just me.....
