QuestionQUESTION: I received a filling on a back tooth 6 months ago. After the filling was done, I started having pain on that side of my mouth and was unable to eat on my left side because of the pain and sensitivity. During those 6 months I went to that Dentist several times- over 10- and each time he kept filing that tooth down. Well, 6 months later, still painful. He then suggested a root canal or extraction. I opted for an extraction because I was just sick of the pain of that tooth. When it was taken out- the Dentist was amazed of the uniqueness of my tooth- it was shaped oddly. He then said he was glad I didn't get a root canal. Well days after, after my gum was starting to heal, I found that I still couldn't eat on that side because the tooth in front of that one was sensitive and painful as well. I'm starting to believe that I have irreparable nerve damage! What do you think?
ANSWER: sometimes people can get a neuroma... a nerve that was damaged and continues to send erratic pain signals... nothing is irreparable, but you may need a nerve ablation or local exploration to fix it.... keep up with your dentist....

QUESTION: is the dentist responsible for the damage? If so, are they obligated to take care of the damages financially?
Thank you!
Answerinteresting question.... that is more of a legal question than a medical question.... I don't know if what you have is a neuroma, it is only a theory from someone who has never examined you..... are they obligated to take care of damages?..... no... but I would keep in contact with your dentist to see if there is something he/she can do to help your problem...... good luck with it
