Understanding and Addressing Arm Spasms: Causes & Solutions

Question
For several years my husband, 64 now, has had right arm spasms when he is resting, or sleeping.  They are getting progressively worse.  He sometimes hits me with the arm when we are sleeping. I have to make him turn over away from me.  He sleeps deep and it is hard to get him to turn.  He is absolutely asleep, snoring when he has the worst of he spasms.  He is diabetic, has high cholesterol.  He is on medications for both of those conditions.  What could be causing this??

Answer
Hi Mary and thanks for writing,

Nocturnal Spasms are the muscle cramps that locate in the calves, soles of the feet at night or at the time of rest. They can happen due to low levels of magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium and prolonged sitting.

My advice is to give your husband a good multi-vitamin & multi-mineral and see if that helps; make sure he takes them daily for at least three months.

Wishing you both good health,
Margot
