Abdominal & Pelvic Pain: Endometriosis, Cysts, or Fibroids?

Question
I been on my period since December 11 of last year(I think it my period because the bleeding varies) but I am also have pain in the abdomen and the pelvis area. My GYN did a pap smear and felt a knot or a tenderness and wants me to go to get a laparoscopy(sp?) done to see if it endometriosis. I would like to know what is causing my pain? Is it endometriosis?

Answer
Hi Shantay
It could be endo...but the immediate problem could be a cyst or fibroid. I have had fibroids before and had them removed. Any disruption or growth with cause you to bleed like that.
It is best to get a lap test. It is a very simple and relatively painless procedure but a great way to see exactly what is going on as far as endo.
Once a lap test is done, your gyno can treat you accordingly and get the bleeding to stop whether it is thru surgery or some type of hormone. Endo is best treated with hormones.
Endo, unfortunately is a constant pain disease, so getting the appropriate help will make a world of difference.
I hope you do well with the outcome of the test and start to feel better...Take care.
