QuestionHi Martha. 47 year old here...20+ yr history of ovarian cysts, fybroids, endometriosis, and lap proceedures. Presently have large cyst on my right ovary (nearly 4 inches across), and a smaller one on the left (approx 1 inch).
My surgeon has recommeded removing both ovaries/falopian tubes ect (keeping the uterus for now). He indicated that removing the ovaries would greatly improve the endo.
My question is this: If I take HRT, wont that still promote the endo condition?
Thanks so much.
Terri
AnswerHi Terri
Yep, I have the same sort of background....I have heard however, that when removing just the ovaries, bigger problems can stem from the remaining organs left behind. Like uterine cancer. But taking HRT can promote endo, but it can also keep it at bay.
In my case, I was estrogen deficient, taking low doses of estrogen kept all my symptoms in line and my endo did not increase in severity. It depends on how your body will react.
I am a couple years older than you and I would like to keep all the estrogen I can for now. I am still not thru the change. I swear it will never end!
You may want to get a second opinion, unless you really trust this doctor. I know the cysts need removed, but I'd check to see just how much needs to come with them.
I have had several surgeries in the past too, that took out cysts and fibroids from my uterus and ovaries. The only thing that was removed during those procedures was about 1/4 of my left ovary.
Best of luck to you. If you get a chance, let me know how you end up. Take care of yourself. Martha
