Questionhow do you know if you have endometrosis and how common is it in women
AnswerHi Jo,
Thanks for the question...Endometriosis is the leading gynecological disease for women and also the leading cause of fertility related issues. It is reported that 1 in 10 women have Endo. So, it is very common.
Most women with Endo went seeking help for either pain or infertility. They are the two biggest symptoms. Although deffinately not the only ones.
A few of the others are...painful intercourse, painful bowel movements and/or urination or frequent urination, heavy or irregular menstration and fatique. Again, there are more but the ones I listed and most often seen.
Endo can only be diagnosed through a simple out patient procedure called a Laparoscopy. Also, many of the same symptoms are also symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome so many women with Endo are first given the diagnosis of IBS. Therefore, the number of women afflicted with this disease is probably a lot higher then the numbers show.
If you are having a problem with any of these or know some one who is...visit your ob/gyn and have things checked out.
Please remember that there is no cure for Endo at the time, only temporary treatment options. If Endo is suspected please make sure you and/or your loved ones are very informed as to what the possibilties are.
A great site to visit on this topic is www.endo-resolved.com.
Thanks again for the question and if you have any others please feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
Angie
