Endometriosis & Fertility: Understanding Your Chances & Treatment

Question
I was diagnoised with endometriosis in Aug '05.  What are my chances of getting pregnant?  How often do cysts come back?  I've had two cystectomies, a year and half apart.  Am I going to have to have surgery for the rest of my life?  Why is this happening to me?  My doctor dosen't seem to have any answers for me.  I have spent many tearful nights over this question.

Answer
Hi Heather,
I am sorry to hear that you have had the worry so many nights about this disease. Endo is ongoing but can be treated in most cases. It rarely ever goes away, but a good doctor can help! Firstly, I would suggest finding a specialist in endo/fertility. Usually they go hand in hand. You have obviously already had a lap to be diagnosed. Your ongoing symptoms depend on the severity of your endo.
Yes, you can most certainly get pregnant, but it may take alittle longer than most "normal" woman. Recently, though, I have read where endo women suffer miscarriages with their first pregnancies. On the lighter side, I know several "endo" women who have conceived, carried and delivered normal healthy babies!
Throughout my life, I have experienced much of what you have already experienced and more...at the time, my doctor did not relate my symptoms to endo...but now that we know more, all my surgeries and mishaps were due to endo.
If I hadn't had such a good doctor, I would have been very miserable!
Locate a good gyno and he/she will be able to help with the endo and a pregnancy! Best of luck to you! Don't waste anymore time being upset at nite!! Let a doctor do the worrying for you.
