Endometriosis & Depo-Provera: Managing Symptoms & Fertility

Question
I have been on the depo shot for the past 6 years or so. Was  diagnosed with endo about 5 years ago. I started off using depo as a birth control method, but now am using it to control my endometriosis. For the past year, I have been thinking about having another child. But, I can't stay off the depo shot long enough to conceive. You see, if I go without the depo shot, I will bleed and bleed. I will bleed and heavily spot until I can no longer take the pain and frustration. Then I request the shot again to stop the bleeding and pain. Do you know of any way I can wean myself off the shot and in the meantime, control or stop bleeding long enough to see if I can even get pregnant? I am scared that my endometriosis is so bad that I am unable to get pregnant...

Answer
Hi Danielle,
I totally understand your frustration! I am assuming you are under a doctors care. I would think a Dr could help you with this decision. However, I take an anti inflammatory called Anaprox on an "as needed" basis, to help with the bloating, cramps and overall pain of a period. It will not control your bleeding tho...but it will help with the pain. Maybe this would be a partial remedy in the interim, until you could conceive.
On the other hand, if you have not seen a DR for this issue...maybe something else is wrong, like fibroids...they will make you bleed heavily until they are taken care of. Other than BC pills to control the bleeding...the options are slim to none as conception would be impossible.
I would find a High Risk or Fertility Dr to help you. I wish you well and good health. Take care.
