Irregular Periods & Infertility: Understanding & Solutions

hi i am 29 years old with already one 4 year old kid. My periods were always regular (28 days cycle), since 3 months we r planning to concieve and everytime i am not able to instead my periods r running late the cycle is exteneded by more than 31 days. plz suggest me some solution

Your best bet for trying to conceive with irregular periods is to use fertility awareness methods.  By charting your basal body temperature, cervical position and opening, and vaginal mucous, you can predict your ovulation even if it happens at a different time each cycle.  By timing your intercourse for the 5 days surrounding ovulation (4 days preceding and 1 day after), you will maximize your chances for conception.  Check out www.fertilityfriend.com for free online charting tools and tips for how to do this.  The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" will also help provide more detailed instructions.

Remember, though, that even with perfect timing and perfect fertility, you still only have a 20% chance of conception each cycle.  This is why most doctors will not begin infertility treatments until after 1 year, unless there is some other evidence of a problem.  You should give fertility awareness charting at least six months before exploring other options.
