Faint Positive Pregnancy Test - 13 Days Late: What Does It Mean?
QuestionHi my name is Valerie and I am 24. I have a 2 year old son and was on the birth control pill for 18 months. I have now been of the pill since october. My cycles are always 27-29 days, but mostly 28 days. I am now 13 days late. I have taken several pregnancy test but just got my first faint positive at 10 days late, which was this Monday. I also went to the ob that same day and they did a blood test. Also the same day (10 days late, Monday) I had some crampy and spotting which only lasted that day. I got a call yesterday saying my levels were only a 15 and she thought I had a chemical pregnancy and should be starting my period any day if I did not start with in a week to call back. Now I am certain I did not ovulate at day 14 and was atleast a week late. Could she be wrong and I am just to early to have a high hcg level? Or do you also think that I had a chemcial pergnancy. I still have not started my period yet. Also if I was to take another blood test and my hcg doubled would I for sure be pregnant then. Thanks for any info!
Valerie
AnswerAn HCG value of 15 is very low and does not indicate anything. If you were to take two blood tests, 48 hours apart, and there was a doubling of the HCG value in 48 hours, it does, indeed, indicate a viable pregnancy. If you do not get your period within a week, take another pregnancy test. You may have ovulated later and, for that reason, took the pregnancy test too early.
