Birth Control & Intercourse: Safety During Placebo Pills - Expert Advice
QuestionI am going to be taking the last of my hormone pills tonight (I'm on Estrostep FE) & starting my placebo pills tomorrow night, it's time for my peroid. Is it ok for my husband & I to have sex up until I start my peroid? Even though I'm only on placebo pills or should we use back up? I just don't want to take a chance of getting pregnant. We got married in October & I started my birth control in September, my gyno told me I could take straight hormone pills for up to 3 months @ a time as long as I allowed myself to take my placebo pills @ the end of the 3rd month. What do you think? Will I be safe if we have sex. Any feed back @ all would be great!! Thanks in advance!
AnswerWhen you are on the pill you are protected from pregnancy ALL THE TIME, also during the pill free/placebo week. Please read the little pamphet that came with your pills, in it is all you need to know.
As for taking active pills for three months in a row, your gynaecologist is right. Have in mind that you might be experiencing some break through bleeding.
Good luck!
