Birth Control & Skin Reactions: Causes & What to Do

Question
Do low dosage form of birth control cause allergic reations. I have a skin rash on my face that started since I got on the pill. Should I switch to a higher dosage?

Answer
Some women get a skin pigmentaton from hormonal birth control. If you got the rash at the time you started hormonal birth contol a higher dose will only make things much worse. You should see a doctor to get it diagnosed. If your doctor confirmes that the rash is caused by the birth control he will probably advise you not to use any type of hormonal contraceptive. However, the rash (again, if caused by birth control) will not disappear spontaneously once you get off whatever birth control you're on.

Good luck!
