Fertility After Depo Shot & LEEP: A Personal Experience
QuestionHi. Im 27 yrs old my husband and I are trying to get pregnant again. I was on the depo shot for about 3 years and havent been very good about getting it on time. Recently I stopped getting it so I can get pregnant( my last shot was in may 09) Back in august i had a LEEP procedure done and I never bled from getting it done like I expected. I did have 2 days of bleeding in the beginning of september. For the past 3 weeks I have been having some weird things going on like my breasts have been very sore( the only time that happened was when i was pregnant with my son) have on and off neausa anytime of the day, extra tired, going to the bathroom alot. My question is if I could get pregnant that soon after stopping the shot or is that normal side effect stopping the shot? I took a test a week or so ago and it was negative but I dont know when I could take a test and it be accurate since I havent had any periods yet except the 2 days of bleeding in the beginning of september. Sorry for so long. Thanks for any advice
AnswerHi Allison,
A pregnancy test will usually be positive by the time you have symptoms, and usually positive 2 weeks after conception. It may be worthwhile to repeat the test now (first morning urine). If it's still negative, I think that your breast soreness and other symptoms are because your ovaries are getting active and making hormones, perhaps leading up to ovulation. It's not too early to get pregnant after the depo, but sometimes it takes quite a while. It's certainly possible that you could ovulate, get pregnant, and therefore never really have a period, but be pregnant. Best wishes.
