Understanding When to Start Your Birth Control Pill: A Clarification

Question
Hi Diana -

I already read your response to the question about beginning the pill before your period begins, and my questions is slightly different. Of course my doctor told me that I should wait until the Sunday after my next period to begin the pill ... and I am wondering why, if it doesn't matter when I begin taking it ... that he would say this, and most pills say the same I believe. Any wisdom on this would be most appreciated! Also, it is my first time taking the pill, should I expect to get morning sickness? I am a little nervous about the side effects, do you know of a web-site or would you mind explaining the most common side effects or problems you know girls experience? Should I expect bleeding? I feel clueless! Now that I am not with my doctor, I'm thinking of all these questions! Thanks so much for your help.
 Sincerely. H.

Answer
They ask you to start the pill at that time so there is a minimum of disruption of the period.

Morning sickness is something that occurs in pregnant women.

The best website that you can go to would be the site for the type of pill that you are on, or check out webmd.com
