Understanding Birth Control Effectiveness & Potential Pregnancy Risks

Question
So I've been on the pill for almost a year now. I just became sexually active about 5 months ago and I've been using condoms as extra protection. This month my boyfriend and I had sex several times and used a condom every time except once when he inserted his penis into my vagina and it wouldn't go all the way in so he just took it out and didn't continue. I felt for pre cum before he put it in. This wouldn't be an issue but I'm not the best at taking my pills. I will almost always take it on time but I didn't have access to my pills one night so I took it early the next morning. Two weeks before my period I started to get cramps with no staining. One week before my period I starting getting a slight brown staining, and it is now 4 days before my period and the brown has gone away and I now just have a slimy and clear and thick and white discharge that I only notice if I really try, meaning it's not on my underwear at all just when I wipe and really look. Could I be pregnant? Jus as a side note the past few months I have been getting cramps worse than usual on my period, not sure if this means anything or not? Also If I took a test right now would it just be pointless? I'm extremely nervous and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Nicole,
I think pregnancy is highly unlikely as long as you haven't missed any pills for more than 12 hours.  Your symptoms are more likely due to stress or just side effects of the pills.  A pregnancy test usually won't be positive until a period is missed.  I don't know why you're getting worse cramps with your periods, but that may be due to stress as well.  An STD can cause many of your symptoms, so if that's a possibility, then I'd get tested for that.  Pregnancy seems very unlikely.  I hope that's helpful.
