Getting Pregnant After Stopping Birth Control: A Guide
QuestionHi, I'm currently on birth control pills (ortho cept) but my boyfriend and I want to try to get pregnant. Right now I have 5 active pills left in my pack (don't take today's till tonight) and then 7 placebo pills. I was going to keep taking the pills the right way, but then after the 7th placebo pill I was gonna not start a new pack....if I do this, will it screw up my cycle and when will I be most fertile and when can my boyfriend and I start trying? Or am I doing it the wrong way? Please help we really want a baby!!!
AnswerWhen a woman stops the pill (whether at the end of a pack or in the middle), it often takes 3-4 weeks for her to stop ovulating. I think since you're in a hurry to get pregnant, I would stop the pill now. You'll get the withdrawal period, and then you may not get your natural period for 4-6 weeks. You can try anytime, but it's better to wait until you get that next period before you think too much about it. If you usually have regular periods when not on the pill, your periods will usually become regular again after that next period. Since you don't know when the next period will come, and it will likely be late, it's best to wait for that period before trying very hard.
