RU486 Recovery: What to Expect in the First 2 Weeks

Question
Hi Danielle,
Just my luck to start becoming alarmed lated Friday and not looking forward to going to a hospital.  I took RU486 3-27-2008, how I lived through the pain initially I dont know, I had my follow up visit 4-3-2008 at the time they did a vaginal ultrasound and said it looked great and the tissue was about the size of the tip of her pinky finger it may pass all at once or in little clumps.  Great not that I knew what she meant it sounded like the bleeding was almost done.  I have bled heavily almost 16 hours a day, the other night I could hardly pee the pain was sort of like a contraction.  Well the cramps have been mild to moderate and I have missed a couple antibiotics.  The hardest part of all of this is I made my decision to abort and no one has any sympathy or even cares if I feel like crap.  My sister even thinks God has every right to inflict pain on me for what I did,and this sort of thing is what I fear from strangers if I were to walk into a hopsital thinking the bleeding is an indication of a problem.  Nothing on the internet explains it but says bleeding should not last over 2 weeks?

Answer
Hi Jaclyn :)

Bleeding can last up to four weeks. But bleeding heavily, like soaking 2 pads within an hour, indicates a problem. If your clinic gave you a 24 hour # to call, please do. Either make an emergency appointment, or go to the hospital. You really want to err on the side of caution with this. It sounds like you may have an infection, or something may have gone wrong, so get to a medical provider ASAP.

I'm sorry about your situation, and how others are treating you. it's no business of theirs to say such things to you. And the hospital is there to help, and you should not have to worry about being judged. They want to help you and make sure your safe, it's not their job to judge.
