Questioni had an abortion mid-april (2 day procedure with tents). my first period after the abortion was completely normal. the second however was intense... a week of heavy bleeding, followed by approximately 2 weeks of spotting dark brown and bleeding after sex on occasion. is there something wrong? I'm on the pill, so shouldn't my periods be regulated by now?
AnswerIt can take up to three-four months for your menstrual cycle to become regulated after an abortion. Some people have very light, spotty periods for months, some have heavy periods, some have irregular cycles and some even have no periods at all for 8-10 weeks. I don't think there's anything to worry about in your case.
However, if you're consistently bleeding right after sex, or if your bleeding becomes very heavy (you soak a sanitary pad in 2 hours, twice in a row), or if you have period-like bleeding that continues for a long time (10 days or more), then you should definitely see a doctor because that's not normal. of course, you could even call up your doctor now to check if that would set your mind at ease, but I don't think there is a problem right now.
