QuestionQUESTION: I had a surgical abortion on Saturday, about 5 days ago. I was about 8 weeks pregnant. However before I went for the abortion, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on a Monday night, the same week before the abortion. and he ejaculated inside because i was already pregnant anyway.
I'd like to know if its possible that his sperm could still be inside me after the abortion or if it has all been terminated along with the pregnancy? Im just a bit worried cause Its 5 days now since the abortion and im still getting some of the symptoms of pregnancy, like sensitive teeth, sore breasts and some tiredness, but the bleeding has stopped like 2 days after the abortion.
Thanks a lot.
ANSWER: Hello, Bree,
You said you had sex on Monday, and had the abortion on Saturday. Sperm don't live that long. It won't have anything to do with the abortion. After abortion, a woman's hormones last awhile, so you will experience the same symptoms as before. They should be less obvious with time.
The main thing that concerns me is that if you are still having sex with your boyfriend, you will eventually wind up right where you were before you had an abortion. Protection doesn't work, and neither does pulling out. You really deserve better. Your boyfriend should cherish and protect you, not take advantage of your body, because when he does, you pay the price, and that's not reasonable. Please have a talk with him about this. There are other ways to express affection. Any kind of penetration into your body can lead to a nasty disease regardless.
The other thing you need to be aware of is that now you are much more likely to get breast cancer while you are still young. The particular form kills about 1/4 of its victims. If you have a close relative who has had breast cancer, it's a virtual certainty. See if you can find someone who will do thermograms for you periodically. Mammograms are more likely to spread cancer if you have it. Also, there are ways you can help protect yourself. If you have enough Vitamin D3 in your body, you are much less likely to get breast cancer. You should do some research on the web about this. A woman can take around 5000 units of Vitamin D3 daily, but should have her blood tested to make sure she doesn't have too much in her system. You can get Vitamin D from exposure to sunlight as well, but that is a lot more difficult. I'll give you details if you want them.
Please take care of yourself and don't take any more chances. Stay safe!

QUESTION: Thanks a lot for your advice. I also had mixed feelings about having an abortion, however i would like to know why you said im more likely to get breast cancer now? Im 27 yrs now, and There is no history of any form cancer in my family at all, but I had a benign lump in my breasts removed when I was about 18yrs.
And also what are thermograms and mammograms? I have chosen to abstain from sex for a while now until Im ready to have children because it was a bad experience for me going through the abortion, and I feel regret/guilt since then.
I also still feel some cramps in the lower right side of my abdomen
How is the best way to get vitamin D in my body?
Thanks a lot for your input
AnswerG'day, Bree,
When a woman becomes pregnant, certain hormones (estrogen, for example) greatly increase in quantity. Estrogen prepares breast cells to produce milk. This process takes several months. Immature breast cells are particularly prone to cancer, and estrogen is known to be a risk factor for breast cancer. Once the cells are mature, you are less likely to get breast cancer, but this doesn't happen until the last month or so of pregnancy. If their development is stopped by an induced abortion, they stay in this immature state. (Miscarriage doesn't have this effect because the estrogen doesn't increase enough to begin with.) The fact that you don't have breast cancer in your family means you are less likely to get it, but the chances are still increased over what they would otherwise be.
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breasts. In some countries, it is recommended a woman get an annual mammogram once she reaches a certain age. However, in order to take the X-ray, they have to crush a woman's breasts against a hard surface, and if she has any breast cancer starting in her body, this will only cause it to spread. A thermogram is when they map the temperature of the tissues of the body on a color image. When breast cancer starts, this will result in one side showing up cooler than the other.
As for getting Vitamin D3 into your body, I recommend you do some reading, because it would take awhile to explain it. Here is a good web site to learn about it:

Use "Vitamin D breast cancer" as search terms. He has a lot of information.
I am deeply sorry to hear that you are feeling regret and guilt from your abortion. Please know that you are not alone. Not only is this common, but you can heal emotionally and spiritually. There are organizations that provide help. You can find one near you in Australia by going here:

I am also here, and I am willing to talk to you any time. Go to God and ask for His forgiveness. He is waiting to forgive you, and He can bring about a state of peace. It takes time. You have already taken one good step: abstaining from sex.
If you start to have more severe pain in your body, on the right side, be sure and get it checked out immediately, especially if the pain suddenly stops. You could either have a tubal pregnancy, or problems with your appendix. You may require emergency surgery.
Please let me know how you do, and take care. Feel free to write any time. I may be gone for a few days, so if you respond while I am gone, I'll get back to you when I return.
