Questioni thought i was 9+2 weeks pregnant ... brown spotting for a few days, then blood when i wiped, went to ER and after ultrasound was told baby only measuring 6 weeks. no heartbeat as yet. have to go back next week so see if there is any growth. also had an internal exam, and yesterday passed a noticeable clot, today, also bled a bit but not as much, some mild cramping but i am taking it easy. what kind of odds do you think i have of things being okay? trying to be positive but don't want to set myself up for a fall.my 9+2 week calc was based on a 28 day cycle but i think mine is more like a 32-34 day cycle.
AnswerDear Aine,
If you have a 34 day cycle, then it would make sense that the ultrasound measured your baby at only 6 weeks, since you would have ovulated around day 20 of your cycle, and could have conceived a few days after that. It should be possible to hear and see a heartbeat at about 8 weeks after conception.
There is such a thing as bleeding from implantation, which is when the embryo burrows into the lining of the uterus to begin forming a placenta.
It is also possible that you have developed something called a subchorionic hematoma, which is a blood clot under the area of the placenta, and can cause cramping, bleeding, and passing clots. Your doctor should be able to see it on the ultrasound. It can sometimes be dangerous to the developing baby if it gets too big, but as far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to get rid of it. The only thing to do would be to wait, watch it via ultrasound, and take it as easy as possible, to rest your body as much as possible so it can have strength to do what it needs to.
I wish you well and best of luck,
Sheva
