Post-Abortion Cycle Changes: Causes & What to Expect

Question
I had and abortion 04/05 and had regular period for a couple of months after that. But suddenly started having longer cycle. I was always right on time at 28 day they started to be anywhere from 39-36days. I got pregnant december of 2006 and had a miscarriage. My ob/gyn put me on yaz afterward and of course that regulated my cycle but I had to stop taking it because bc pills increase my bp significantly. So i thought I was pregnant after I stopped taking them because I had no cycle but it turned out that I had too much estrogen or progesterone from the pills and my obgyn put me on one cycle of provera. I've had normal 28 day cycles every since up until about two months ago. March my cycle was 29 days and I didn't gt a period in april at all.finally started May 5th. My question is do what do you think the problem is with my cycle and could it be related to me having that abortion in 2005?

Answer
Hi, Andrea,

Nobody can answer questions about your body over the internet, not even a doctor, so for definitive answers, I urge you to see a doctor. Evidently, you should see someone else, because the one you have seen hasn't helped you. You might consider going to someone who practices natural methods.

That said, I think it is highly likely all of this started with your abortion. Abortion causes a major disruption of a woman's hormones. You have been taking various hormonal remedies ever since. Obviously, continuing to do that isn't going to help. Also, the miscarriage you had could be related to the abortion as well.

I realize this probably wasn't all that helpful, but feel free to ask any additional questions you might have. All I can do is say, "I don't know" and you might get lucky. :)

Take care.
