Post-Abortion Bleeding: What to Expect After an Abortion

I am 27 years old and had an abortion during my 8th week of pregnancy.  After a month I started having my period.  Today is the 16th day of my continous period.  I had a very light period on the first week, heavy flow on the second week and this third week seems to be light.  At the same time it is also my third week of taking ortho tricyclen birth control pills.  I was wondering if this menstruation for a long time is normal?

Dear Maria,

I'm not a medical doctor but in my opinion, you need to get a check up immediately about this bleeding for 16 days. This is not healthy and please call your doctor. I have not heard of this being normal. Are you having any other side effects from the birth control pills. I wonder if this could be affecting the bleeding but I can't say for sure.
