QuestionQUESTION: Hi Dr. I had a surgical abortion in 2005 at six weeks.Recovery was 100% . Exactly one year after, I became pregnant again and at six weeks again, I had another surgical abortion.Recovery was not smooth. I was spotting for the next four months (not everyday ) and no menses. On the fifth month, my menses started again and very regular 28 days. I am and was not on any pills. In 2008, I was pregnant again and this time, wanted to keep the pregnancy. Three weeks into the pregnancy, I started spotting on some days. By week four, I went for an ultra sound to see if all was ok. My results came out that all was ok. On week five, I started bleeding, thicker than the previous spotting, i.e with some clots. I decided to end the pregnancy to avoid more complications.On week six, I had another surgical abortion. In the process, the Dr.said that my womb was large and when the abortion was complete the Dr. also said the remains were too light and fluffy and more like fibre than nornal.I did not blleed much after the abortion. On week six my menses came as usual and spotting continued non stop till my next period and then spotting again then menses. then everything stopped without any medication. I called the clinic where the abortion took place and was told that if I am worried I could consult another Dr.because they can only do something on the three weeks of follow up. I am 38years old now and I am writing from the Netherlands. I love to have children and I need advice.Thanks.

Er zijn vrouwen die meer dan 10 abortussen hebben ondergaan en toch weer zwanger kunnen worden. Uw uiteindelijke vraag is me niet helemaal duidelijk. U hebt kennelijk kinderwens, en Uw leeftijd speelt daarbij dan wel een rol, maar maakt zwangerschap ook niet onmogelijk.

There are women who underwent more tahn 10 abortions and still are able to get pregnant again. Your final question is not clear to me.

QUESTION: Hi Dr. Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes I had all the abortions in the Netherlands.(In one of the two clinics ) I glad to know that the abortions will not influence my ability to have children in future.What I will like to know from you is an explanation to why I was spotting for so long and even between my periods . I thought you might be dutch. There are 18 clinics in Holland.
After an abortion, especcialy when you are over thirty, the hormonal balance is disturbed, and spotting is one of the signs of that.
