Understanding Light Bleeding After IUI & Progesterone - Is It Embryo Shedding?

Question
First of all thanks for the last bit of advice you gave me. I waited the 12 days took a hpt (4 actually) and got that positive I've been waiting for. Now however my RE said my progesterone was low so they increased my meds I am currently waiting for my repeat hcg. My question is I have been bleeding lightly and was wondering if its at all possible that the bleeding is shedding of embryos that didn't implant? I had my iui with 6 ready follicles and wasn't sure if this was a possible scenario. My RE knows about the bleeding and said to relax that is was common in first trimester but I wanted you input on the scenario I mentioned above. Thanks again!

Answer
Hello,

I agree with your RE and have had the same experiences with my patients.  Spotting in the first trimester is very common and usually doesn't mean anything.  I have attributed most of the cases to vaginal progesterone, which can cause the cervix to bleed a little, but have also seen it in patients that are not on this formulation.  It is not from the embryos/eggs that did not take.  They are reabsorbed without incident.

For now, congratulations, and try to remain calm and stress free.  The stress can do more damage.  I am confident that things will turn out for the best.  The only bleeding you should worry about is if you have bleeding like a full period with cramping.
