Post-Abortion Concerns: Pregnancy After Abortion & Plan B

Question
I got an abortion about 6 weeks ago on Jan 16th..I haven't got my period
since then but now I am worried because a week ago I had sex and the
condom fell off inside me and so did the sperm.  The next morning I took
the plan B pill and then just yesterday ( a week after the plan B) I saw
some spotting but it was only that one time it didn't even last the whole
day... I don't understand what is going on because of all the factors I
should consider...

Answer
Dear Royalty,
It's common and normal to have a delayed period after an abortion.  Sometimes it can take 2 or even 3 months to come back to normal.  However, you are right, you can get pregnant again during this time, so it's good that you took Plan B.  Since you took it, it would be unlikely but possible that you are pregnant again.

The first thing you should do is to check a pregnancy test, to make sure it is negative from the first pregnancy. Make sure to get the pregnancy tests with two lines, not the ones that are digital.  It would be too early to be positive from the incident a week ago.  Hopefully it will be negative, or just faint positive. Then, if you don't get your period, check it again in one week. If it is still negative or faint positive, everything is fine.

I hope this is helpful,
