Positive Pregnancy Test After Abortion: Understanding the Results

Question
Hello, doctor. My question is this: On the 13th of January I had an abortion. I was scheduled to have surgery (laproscopy) today March 24th, but after a positive pregnancy test (before surgery performed) it was postponed. I'm wondering if it is still showing positive because of my pregnancy in January? My cycle started on the 5th of March and lasted about 6 days, which is usually rare. I waited three weeks before having intercourse and also had a check up w/i those three weeks. I also was given an ultrasound due to an enlarged uterus and a fetus was not detected (Feb 24th).  I had intercourse on the 4th of February and 13th and March 3rd and 21st. They also took my blood to check my levels, but I have not received those results yet. I am excited about this pregnancy and do not plan on termination, if I am; however, I'm worried that its not accurate. Any advice will help. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Dyiane,

pregnancy test rest positive about max 3-4 weeks after an abortion.
So the january pregnancy cannot influence the test result anymore.
I think best is to wait for the outcome of the test done now.
Patience will do the trick.
bests,
Dr Shan
