I don't have enough information to tell you anything yet. What kind of abortion did you have? How far along were you? Are you measuring from your last menstrual period, or from the day you think you conceived?

Please let me know the answers, and I'll see if I can tell you more. Thank you.

QUESTION: I was 7wks 4 days I had a surgical and I am still bleeding from the abortion 3wks now I don't know if I concieved

ANSWER: Hello, Dominique,

Thank you for the additional information. Abortion always damages a woman's body. Given that you had a surgical abortion, prolonged bleeding may be a sign that they injured you more than they usually do. You should go to a doctor and have him look at the situation. Do NOT go back to the person who did the abortion. Find someone who knows that abortion is bad medicine, and who is familiar with the problems that can result from abortion. You may have an injury to the uterus, or the cervix (such injuries are common), and there is also the possibility you are bleeding internally.

No one knows how a particular woman will react to abortion. Some women become fertile very quickly, so you can't rule out pregnancy. You should test at weekly intervals for several weeks and see if you get a positive test. You should stop putting yourself at risk. As long as you are having sex, you will live in fear of pregnancy, and you deserve better. If you are married, learn to tell when you are fertile, but please keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with having a child if you are married. There are organizations all over Texas that can help you with any difficulties you face. To find one near you, please go to this web site:

optionline.org

If you are not married, have a talk with your partner. See if he is willing to respect your body and protect you from the possibility of pregnancy. "Protection" doesn't work, so the only way you can be assured you do not have to fear pregnancy is to stop having sex. If he isn't willing to respect you, find someone else. He is just using you for his pleasure. It is possible you find pleasure in sex as well, but you are putting yourself at unnecessary risk, and you are missing the deeper meaning of sex.

In the future, if you become pregnant, be sure and tell the doctor you had a previous surgical abortion. He may need to provide treatment that will help prevent your baby from developing a serious birth defect as a result of abortion. Also, I recommend you take Vitamin D3 for the rest of your life, to protect yourself from breast cancer. A good daily dose is 5000IU. You will have to have your blood tested to make sure you are not getting too much.

Please take care of yourself. I am here if you need to talk, and would love to hear how you are doing.

QUESTION: I wanted to know how long does the hcg hormones last in your body after an abortion? I have taken two pregnancy test on 7/29 they both came out posative am I really pregnant?

Answer
Hello, Dominique,

Nobody will be able to tell you over the internet if you are pregnant or not. Chances are, the positive tests are because of the hormones from the pregnancy you aborted. These hormones can last for several weeks.

Take a pregnancy test again in a week and see if it is fainter than it was this time.

Take care.
