QuestionOn April 14th on my 6th week of pregnancy i took the abortion pill and
everything went as doctors predicted, the day i went for my check up
everything was fine and i got my BCP and the bleeding process was almost
over. After a few weeks of this my boyfriend and i had sex and after we were
done we noticed the condom broke, that night i had a few drops of blood,
the next day i took a plan B and no more bleeding, as my doctor said
pregnancy is a higher risk after an abortion. Last Wednesday my boyfriend
and i were having sex again and once again i was bleeding a bit but this time
was a heavier than last time so i assumed i got my period so i started my BCP
pack but the bleeding stopped after a day. So my questions are: since i took
a plan B, there shouldn't be a risk of pregnancy? and if there is no pregnancy,
after all this pills would my BCP still work? should i keep going with the same
BCP pack?
AnswerDear Leonor,
From what you describe, you do not have a risk of a new pregnancy. If you start birth control pills within one week of an abortion, they sould be effective immediately. I can't tell if you started them then, or later when you got your period. Either way, you took Plan B so you should be fine. Yes, your birth control pills should work, and you should keep going with the pack.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
