Post-Abortion Period & Pregnancy Test: What to Do?

a month ago i had an abortion surgical it was my first time pregnant but now i did a pregnancy test and i come out positive and my period i did not get it yet. so my question is could a do an abortion surgical again? what would be the effects if i do my second abortion in short period of time after that first one? could please answer me asap!!! thanks for this matter.

Dear Karina,
First of all, don't fret yet.  You may not be pregnant again.  It is common and normal to have a positive pregnancy test one month after an abortion.  It is also common and normal to have a delayed period for up to 1-2 months.  This is the most likely scenario.  It is less likely that you are pregnant again. It is also possible but unlikely that the abortion one month ago did not work.  Did you go for a follow up visit?

It can be difficult to sort out if you are pregnant after an abortion.  You can either just wait and check it again in one week.  You can also get blood tests.  You can also get an ultrasound. I would suggest you call the office that did your abortion, and tell them about the test. They will have your records from the procedure and will help you decide the best way to figure this out.  If you do end up needed another procedure, there is no harm in getting a second procedure one month later.
