Delayed Period After Abortion: What to Expect & When to Worry

I had a surgical abortion about 59 days ago and still have yet to get my period. I believe I bled a week after the operation, but it was real dark and for only a day. I am scared I am pregnant again. Honestly, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. I am really freaked out because the first abortion really depressed me. I am afraid it will ruin my chances of getting pregnant some point down the road. Please help.

Dear Stephanie,
It is common and normal to have a delayed period for up to 3 months after an abortion.  As long as you are not pregnant there is nothing to worry about.  It will come back to normal eventually.

I would suggest that you buy a home urine pregnancy test (the one with two lines on it).  If it comes back negative, there is no concern.  If it is positive, email me again.
